Hindu Kush

Strain Name: Hindu Kush Grade: A Type: Indica Looks: Dark green with orange hairs. Smell: Dank pine Taste: not a significant taste, burns lungs and throat even with small hit. Effects: Trippy high, made me see in frames and become VERY silly. Potency: 8.8/10

Hindu Kush is a pure indica strain named after the mountain range stretching 500 miles between Pakistan and Afghanistan where it originated. The harsh climate of its homeland has conditioned this strain to express a thick, protective coat of crystal trichomes cherished by hash makers worldwide. With a subtle sweet and earthy sandalwood aroma, Hindu Kush induces a deep sense of calm that helps bring relief to those suffering pain, nausea, and stress disorders.

This sample was pretty standard-looking, with a collection of strong greens, orange-red pistils, and a moderate covering of clear/white trichomes.  We felt that the harvest time was a little early on this one, but perhaps it was intentional on the part of the grower to limit the heaviness of Hindu Kush as a strain.  It was nicely dense, appeared to have a good cure, and was at a great dryness level for consumption.  While we didn’t have a ton of things to say about this one, we also didn’t have any real negatives — this was well-grown medicine.

The aroma in the bag was an understated combination of lightly fruity, musky, and earthy smells that blended together into an almost indecipherable mix.  Once it was ground up, it took on a strong earthy element that reminded us of expensive soil — behind that lurked a slightly acrid and musky smell with a tinge of lemons.  This one was a bit confusing to us, but enjoyable and pungent enough to please the staff.

While one reviewer (using an IncrediBowl) experienced no real issues when smoking, two other reviewers disliked the flavor simply because the quality of the smoke seemed to burn the throat slightly and cause immediate coughing.  The flavor itself was unremarkable regardless, and was mostly earthy/musky with a hint of sweetness present.  We aren’t sure what caused the throat irritation in some of the staff, but it wasn’t unanimous, and the final ash was a light gray/white, indicating that the flush wasn’t to blame.  Hindu Kush tends to be rather harsh as a strain, but this one seemed a little more “hot” going down into the lungs than normal.

(We are NOT doctors – personal opinion ONLY)  Strong body relaxation, mental relaxation, mood elevation, ocular effects, light pain relief, and some sleep aid properties late in the duration.

While we weren’t impressed with the flavor and smell of this one at all really, it was a well cared-for sample that had lots of perfectly-preserved trichomes, sound structure, and a wonderful dryness level.  This med shined most in its effects, which is really what’s most important — the most unique part about it was how quickly and directly the body relaxation was noticed.  We also appreciated how the initial mental potency faded away and left behind all the good body relaxation we desired, converting what was a little heavy at first into an effect that felt very clear-headed and functional.  We like this Hindu Kush as a daytime type of Indica that will help ease the aches and pains of a day both physically and mentally, while not being overbearing at all and retaining function.
